Art Exhibition – Back to Thread –

-Director’s Message-

One of the features of FUJI TEXTILE WEEK is that it examines the local textile industry from various angles as an “industry exhibition,” while at the “art exhibition” it discovers the creativity in artworks, hoping to find the potential for the development of new textile production. This will not only examine textiles from the perspective of their production process, color, shape, design, uses, and the diversity of materials, but will also be an attempt to reconsider textiles using the poetic and aesthetic language of art as metaphor and representation, in order to find new creative opportunities. This year’s theme is “Return to Thread,” focusing on thread, the raw material for textiles. This is also because we are in an era where we need to take a fresh look at where and how the thread that makes up textiles is produced, the burden it places on the environment, and the impact it has on society. Therefore, the “Art Exhibition” will also introduce works and projects that evoke thread as much as possible. The forms of expression are wide-ranging, from embroidery to fashion, and there are also installation works that make use of exhibits from closed shops around town. One of the features of this exhibition is that it is held in abandoned shops and factories around town, and as a result, each work is displayed in a unique space that can only be found here, creating a site-specific dialogue that is another attraction for viewers.Located in the Orimono Mountains at the foot of Mount Fuji, Fujiyoshida is a city. We hope you will enjoy the surrounding environment and the free-flowing creativity of the artists.
