About Works: For this year's FUJI TEXTILE WEEK, Kimberley will be facilitating a series of crochet workshops across three days. Her workshops introduce the foundations of crochet while gently inviting participants into a deeper relationship with nature. After learning the basic stitches and techniques, participants are encouraged to experiment with combining yarn and foraged materials like driftwood and hag stones — bringing together the organic and the handmade in a tactile, meaningful way. Each session begins with a short reflection exercise guided by a thoughtfully designed handout, offering a moment to slow down and set personal intentions for the making process. Herbal tea blends are also offered throughout, creating a warm, grounding atmosphere for learning, creativity, and quiet connection. The workshop space will also feature Kimberley’s experimental art pieces, alongside select garments and functional objects available for purchase.

Artist Profile: キンバリー・クッキー＝ガム / Kimberley Cookey-Gam
Kimberley Cookey-Gam (b.1995) is a British-Nigerian artist currently based in Japan on a year-long Working Holiday visa. She received her Sculpture BA from the University of Brighton in 2018, and went on to study a Sculpture MA at the Royal College of Art in 2021. Kimberley participated in the SARUYA Artist Residency in 2022, where she was first introduced to Fujiyoshida City. Following this, she received the ‘Make It’ award at Cockpit Arts which granted the opportunity to develop her practice over two years in London. Her practice is an exploration of healing through craft, drawing from spirituality, and her Igbo cultural roots. Guided by biomimicry, she explores the hidden architectures of life - microscopic structures, cellular patterns, and the soft rhythms that shape living matter, and translates them through the slow, tactile act of crochet. Through her creative platform crochetcookey, Kimberley creates and nurtures connections between art, garments and people. Each piece – sculpture, clothing, functional object or guided workshop – becomes an offering of care and collaboration. Her work seeks to hold space for healing, and presence, reminding us of the unseen threads that bind us to each other and to the natural world.
