About the Fuji Textile Collaborative Project

Fuji Textile Collaborative Project is an exciting initiative dedicated to enriching Yamanashi’s weaving traditions by merging them with the creative talents of individuals from around the world. The initiative aims to cast light on the distinctiveness of local qualities and technical abilities, investigating the novel possibilities that emerge when they intersect with international design thinking and contemporary aesthetics.

Through encouraging collaborations between local artisans and global creators, the project seeks to unearth and share groundbreaking possibilities for textiles that transcend traditional applications in fashion and products. Instead, it aspires to extend the exploration into diverse fields such as architecture, spatial design, art, and various facets of everyday life.

With Creative Director Arieh Rosen at the helm, this edition marks the project kickoff by inviting the Netherlands-based design studio Raw Color to conduct research on the textile industry in Fujiyoshida City. The exhibition features the display of works by Raw Color, thematic concept-making centered around color, and an introduction to the design process itself. Raw Color will also take part in a talk event during the FUJI TEXTILE WEEK.

More information about the Fuji Textile Collaborative project will be shared soon.

Raw Color’s process

Raw Color’s studio process is characterized by a combination of digital design and physical samples. Within each project, the process and testing can be considered a truly important factor to grant a steady amount of attention to detailing, and to guarantee a high level of quality for the final outcome.

Colours, shapes, and textures can be best reviewed by having physical samples. The goal is not about reaching perfection, but getting as far as possible within a project. Having visual samples in the studio helps to continuously reflect on a project during the process.

The work of Raw Color is mainly influenced by the visual presence of colours. Colours are a visual powerful element that are perceived by humans as the first visual impression. It usually comes before shape and texture. The studio works on projects from an intuitive approach. This is accompanied by themes such as Systems, Grids and Nature. These themes allow to add an analytic layer that channels intuition into logic systems that funnel execution.

Materialising colour across design disciplines.

Raw Color is an Eindhoven-based design studio founded by designers Christoph Brach and Daniera ter Haar. Raw Color has a unique understanding of how to use colour in design. Working across disciplines, blending graphics, textile design and product design, Raw Color helps companies to develop the tools they need to take a position for the near and far future.
The studio’s work reflects a sophisticated treatment of material, embodied through research and experiments to build a visual language.

Together with their team, they are working on commissions, and through self-directed projects, where the studio works intuitively to bring clarity to complex ideas.
