What is FUJI TEXTILE WEEK 2023?

The main features of this event are the “Art Exhibition,” which exhibits works based on textiles, including those created through collaboration between textile production area businesses and artists from Japan and abroad, and the “Design Exhibition,” which enables business matching with producers, in addition to an archive exhibition that allows visitors to learn about the history of the production area. In addition, programs utilizing the rich historical and cultural resources of the region will be held. In addition, the event will also utilize the rich historical and cultural resources of the region.

This year’s theme is “BACK TO THREAD”

As far back as the Edo period (1603-1867), this area was unsuitable for agriculture due to the climate and nature of the soil, and thus became a production center responsible for sericulture, spinning, dyeing, and weaving in the textile industry. Later, with various changes in society, much of the yarn was shifted to imports from other regions, and the production of the region was greatly affected by the procurement of yarn. In recent years, the price of yarn has skyrocketed, and the awareness of producers and consumers has expanded to include interest in materials and environmental issues. Against this backdrop, we will hold a program focusing on new perspectives on yarn as a material and the starting point of manufacturing.
